About Honey Moon Coffee Shop

From 1930 and 1983, only sugarcane was harvested in San Pedro; coffee wasn't even known or planted. Sugarcane was used to process pox or chicha (a liquor). This was used for family consumption because it's traditional for everyone to consume alcohol, simply out of tradition or as a way of showing respect to the family.
So then how did the coffee farm begin?
My father and several other people decided to give up growing sugarcane because it didn’t provide an income and only destroyed families due to alcohol consumption. Between 1950 and 1983, my grandfather and others visited coffee farms along the coast of Mexico, and that's where they learned about coffee and started growing coffee...

Have you lived on the farm your entire life?
My parents have, yes, but we, the children, have left and been to cities.
Could you share any childhood memories related to coffee?
The fondest memory is cherry picking, because the whole family can participate, even children as young as 5. We all enjoy mealtimes, running around the coffee plantations to pick vegetables and enjoying time together.
In what ways has the farm changed more recently?
All the experiments we've done have yielded very good results. We now have resilient coffees, with good yields and, above all, good cup quality, which gives us hope to continue growing and harvesting coffee in the future. It's also changed because we now plant only one variety of coffee per plot.
